June 15 is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD)
WEAAD is a day to voice opposition to abuse experienced by older people. During the week of June 15, individuals and communities throughout Queensland come together to show their support by hosting and attending a wide range of activities to raise awareness of elder abuse and take a stand against ageism. The official colour of WEAAD is purple, which represents wisdom, dignity, independence and creativity. Many people choose to dress in purple or wear a purple ribbon on June 15th to show their support.
